Now I don’t know about you but I happen to think our new tattoos from Tattyoo are fab! When I first discovered them, I knew I had to have them for the shop. They look remarkably realistic, especially THIS one, but without the pain. I am definitely the kind of person who quite likes the look of some tattoos (as long as they’re not covering every inch of your face) and although I’m not brave enough to have a real one, I’m kind of impressed when I see a well designed one. Check out these ones I spotted on PINTEREST.
We just got back from Paris after visiting the world famous Maison & Objet, the trade fair for home, lifestyle, accessories and toys. In fact all the things we love at Home & Kids. And guess what?…I think you’re going to love what’s heading our way very soon!

Unfortunately taking photos at the actual exhibition wasn’t permitted…and they meant it. And after hearing some horror stories from some of the exhibitionists, I can’t say I blame them. A couple of very big high street retailers have been known to copy designs from independents, who have developed their own brand of products, have really thought about the quality, design and aesthetics. And before you know it, the same design is being sold at a fraction, and I mean a fraction of the price on the high street. Needless to say there are some big legal battles going on as we speak and 9 times out of 10 the big names win. This is why, for me, it’s so important to support independent designers. They really care about their products and who gets to sell them because they want to protect the integrity of the design. The high streets are already turning into replicas of each other with all the same big retailers all over England. But hopefully with enough of us independent retailers around, we can offer customers variety and something special that you can’t pick up in any high street you go to.
Yes that’s right…Cath Kidston had a photo shoot in You Don’t Bring Me Flowers For anyone who has been inside this gorgeous vintage flower/tea shop, it’s not hard to understand why. Even though they don’t try to be…they are ‘very Cath Kidston’ I feel very lucky to have this gem of a place on the same road as my shop and can’t wait to see the pictures! I will post them on here when they’re finally printed, however when photo shoots happen it can be for up to a year ahead!
Here are some pictures taken from the YDBMF website but if you can…pay them a visit
Or if you fancy something a little more mediterranean, visit my lovely sister in law, Laura at Hither Green Deli! They regularly keep me fed and watered when I’m working at the shop.
In the meantime, here are some of my favourite things from Cath Kidston, although it’s hard to pick just a few!
Prince Charles recently visited the Cafe of Good Hope on Hither Green Lane to see all the hard work Barry and Margaret Mizen do for young people in the area. I remember the day their lives changed forever. I live on the next road up from where their family live and the tension and mood was horrible as the police did all their investigations. It’s not a day I will forget and as a mother of four children, I can’t quite comprehend what the Mizen family must have and are still going through. It’s quite amazing how Jimmy’s parents have turned such a tragic event into something so positive for their community. They are an inspiration.
The title says it all…I absolutely adore the designs from the very talented Mandy Suttcliffe.
They remind me of days gone by and with their whimsical, enchanting feel they are timeless in design. These art prints are a great way to update your children’s room. The middle image above is called Sofia, which just happens to be my youngest daughter’s name – and with that spelling too! Usually it’s spelt with a ‘ph’ in the middle, and it also just happens to look a bit like her, so I knew I had to have one.
I can’t wait for one of my children to have a party! With these party accessories, I think you’ll agree, they are such a welcome relief to the standard party supplies out there. I will be making an order for the shop soon, so you can enjoy these gorgeous designs too.
Go here for some more fun ideas for kids parties! Although it has references to shops in America, the ideas are cool and similar items can be found in the UK.
